Who we are
The Dimesse Sisters
The Dimesse Sisters, Daughters of Mary Immaculate, are a Catholic congregation founded in 1579 in Vicenza, Italy, dedicated to education, healthcare, and spiritual growth. They strive to embody the teachings of Christ through compassionate service, nurturing young people and the needy with a commitment to evangelization. With a presence in multiple countries, they focus on promoting human, cultural, and religious formation, seeking to uplift communities and foster a deeper connection to faith.

Faith, Service, Community.
Apostolates of the Dimesse Sisters
The Dimesse Sisters’ apostolates encompass a diverse range of services aimed at uplifting individuals and communities through education, healthcare, and spiritual support. In schools, they focus on evangelization and holistic formation, guiding students in their pursuit of truth and values. Through dispensaries, the sisters provide compassionate care to the sick, embodying Christ’s love and charity. Their retreat centers offer hospitality and spiritual renewal for individuals and families seeking solace. Additionally, they engage in charitable institutions and partnerships with the Church, striving to meet both material and spiritual needs while fostering a deeper connection to faith and community.

The Evolution of Our Mission
From Italy to Africa: Embracing the Call to Missionary Work
The mission of the Dimesse Sisters evolved through various dioceses in Italy and expanded beyond Europe during Vatican II. In the 1950s, under the leadership of Bishop Girolamo Bortignon and Monsignor Moletta in Padua, the congregation embraced a renewed missionary spirit, responding to Pope Pius XII’s encyclical “Fidei Donum.” This call encouraged clergy and laity to engage in apostolic work, particularly focused on the Church in Africa, leading the Dimesse Sisters to accept the challenge of becoming missionaries in Kenya.
