The Evolution of Our Mission

From Italy to Africa: Embracing the Call to Missionary Work

The mission of the Dimesse Sisters evolved through various dioceses in Italy and expanded beyond Europe during Vatican II. In the 1950s, under the leadership of Bishop Girolamo Bortignon and Monsignor Moletta in Padua, the congregation embraced a renewed missionary spirit, responding to Pope Pius XII’s encyclical “Fidei Donum.” This call encouraged clergy and laity to engage in apostolic work, particularly focused on the Church in Africa, leading the Dimesse Sisters to accept the challenge of becoming missionaries in Kenya.
